The Owens Community College women's volleyball team swept Columbus State Community College to win their second consecutive NJCAA Division III volleyball national championship. The Express won by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-20 to claim the title.
The Express, who finish the season with a 43-4 record, were led by Tyrianna Settles with 12 kills and nine digs. Semira Neely added ten kills and four digs, while Kayla Bekier had nine kills but two block solos. Arielle Snider had seven kills, while Rebecca Brown has 37 set assists.
Columbus State Community College (28-10) was led by Bobby Diamond with 10 kills, while Burgin Bachman had five kills. Tate Rybarczyk had 14 digs and Audrey Jenkins had 23 assists, eight digs and four kills. Diamond and Jenkins were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Bieker and Brown from Owens were named to the All-Tournament Team, while Settles was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player. Coach Sonny Lewis was named the Heidi Hutchinson Coach of the Year.
The Championship was the second Division III volleyball championship in Region XII history and the 14th overall volleyball National Championship in the history of the Region.
