Commodores Push Lakeland To Brink But Fade Late to Fall 81-69

January 11, 2023 - - The Lorain County Community College men's basketball team fell to NJCAA DII No. 12 Lakeland Community College, 81-69. 

 

Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Week Jayden Roberts (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington HS) followed up on his 27-point, 13-rebound performance against Allegheny County last week to lead the Commodores in scoring with 25 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

 

LCCC's only lead of the game was when Roberts scored on a pass from teammate Casey Kelley (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) with just under four minutes remaining in the first half.  Lakeland used a 10-3 run to go up 40-34 at the half. 

 

Quante May (Cleveland, Ohio/Horizon Science Academy) hit a long distance triple at the halfway point of the second half to bring the Commodores to within one point, 59-58. May would go on to finish with eight points and seven rebounds.  Luqman Lateef (Cleveland, Ohio/Shaw HS) had the team-high in boards with nine.

 

After the triple from May, the Lakers would use a 11-3 run to subdue the Commodore comeback.

 

Brandon Fisher (Strongsville, Ohio/Columbia HS) hit five shots from downtown to have 16 points. Jason Becka (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick HS) had a team-high four assists.

LCCC returns home to the Ewing Activities Center Gymnasium this Saturday when they welcome the Terra State Community College Titans to town.  Tip-off is at 1 p.m.
